People often wonder what dream matches that are still out there between active wrestlers, discussions are held on what attitude era performer could take on one of today’s generation of stars. There is one wrestler who transcend himself over many generations and battled the best at Wrestlemania and other shows, his name is Shawn Michaels.
Whilst some wish they could see HBK take on AJ Styles and Roman Reigns. There is one man that I would love for Shawn Michaels to face and that is a man who transcended other eras too and that is the beast incarnate Brock Lesnar. HBK and Brock Lesnar would have been in the WWE at the same time in the past. In Lesnar original run between 2002 and 2004, HBK returned at the end of 2002 and fought way past 2004 when Lesnar would leave to peruse a career in the NFL.
With Brock Lesnars’ comeback in 2012, his style and persona had changed. Bringing legitimacy back to the WWE was his aim and he definatly brought that to his matches. How can we forget his comeback match against John Cena or the brutal ending to the Randy Orton Match at Summerslam. Lesnar had busted Orton open the hard way and left him laying in a pool of his own blood.
That would be the Lesnar I would like to see face off with The Showstopper. Both men did have interaction in 2013. In the lead up to Wrestlemania 29, Triple H would ask HBK for assistance and be in his corner for his No Holds Barred Match with the former UFC Heavyweight Championship. With these altercations, Mr Wrestlemania showed his great range of acting with facial expressions. Showing fear and bravery at the right moments made Lesnar look even more of a monster and I can only imagine what a feud building up to a huge match at a Wrestlemania would have been like.
I would imagine that Michaels would do his over the top, entertaining selling he does for certain big man. Look at his performances against the likes of The Undertaker and Diesel, you can see how he likes to tell the story of being thrown around, out muscled by the big man. HBK has this amazing technique of making his opponents look incredible, powerful and destructive all by using his facial expressions and body to sell the emotion of the match.
A cocky, suplexing Brock Lesnar would relish a fight against Michaels but unfortunately we will never see the dream encounter. Michaels has come out of retirement for one match against The Brothers of Destruction, Kane and The Undertaker. Sadly that match was a disaster and dream scenario matches against Styles and Daniel Bryan have been reported in the past but Michaels is enjoying retirement and working backstage with NXT.
Our taste of the match will only be the moments in 2013 and it will leave is all wondering what if. Maybe it’s the ultimate tease of what if.
