This Sunday WWE presents Backlash 2020 from the performance centre. The show has been taped in advanced but no spoilers have been seen by us. We look at what we think might happen at this show.
The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever Randy Orton vs Edge
This has controversially been built as the greatest match ever. Rumours are that the match was taped earlier in the week to ensure that it is given the best chance to live up to the hype. With their Wrestlemania match a wild brawl across the performance centre, Randy Orton challenged Edge to a straight up wrestling match. I can see Orton cheating here to win or even walking out on the match.
I can personally see Orton getting disqualified here to set up another final match at the next event Extreme Rules where they will settle the score once and for all. The Viper might even challenge Edge in Edge is own match a TLC match.
WWE Championship Match
Bobby Lashley v Drew McIntyre
With MVP in his corner Lashley is McIntyre biggest threat since he won the championship at Wrestlemania. With Lashley rumoured to be on a collision course with Brock Lesnar at Summerslam there’s a case that Lashley will need to look strong. I can’t see McIntyre dropping the championship, so my pick is that Lana distracts Lashley arguing with MVP at ringside, allowing McIntyre to hit the Claymore Kick.
Winner and Still WWE Champion: Drew McIntyre
WWE Universal Championship Handicap Match
Braun Strowman v The Miz and John Morrison
The Miz and Morrison have been a thorn in the side of Strowman the last couple of weeks. I can only see one outcome and that’s Strowman rolling through Miz and Morrison with Strowman pinning Miz.
What we might see afterwords is The Fiend or Bray Wyatt make an appearance to continue their feud.
Winner and Still WWE Universal Champion: Braun Strowman
WWE Raw Women’s Championship Match
Asuka v Nia Jax
Nia Jax has been built up as of late to be slightly indestructible but I can not see her winning the championship. I can see Asuka and Charlotte feuding after this event with Asuka finally defeating Charlotte but only for Charlotte to defeat her in the rematch to win the Raw Women’s Championship. It’s then I believe we will see Nia Jax and Charlotte have a feud over the Raw Women’s Championship.
It’s sad though that WWE seems only to give true and meaningful feuds to women when their is a title involved, other past feuds don’t really have the full focus of creative if the championship isn’t involved. As regards to the outcome of this match, Jax will get herself disqualified and leave Asuka down but retaining.
Winner and still WWE Raw Women’s Champion: Asuka
Women’s Tag Team Championship Match Bayley and Sasha Banks vs Iconics vs Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross
The tag team championships being with Bayley and Banks adds yet another dimension on to their break up. I just hope they wait until there in-front of a live sell out crowd before the eventual turn. Regarding this match, The Boss and Hug Connection reign will be short and I can see the Iconics picking up the win in this match by beating the team of Bliss and Cross.
This will add another layer in the split, plus this will in my prediction set up Nikki Cross as the next challenger to Bayley Smackdown Women’s Championship.
Winner and New Women’s Tag Team Champions: The Iconics
United States Championship Match Apollo Crews vs Andrade with Zelina Vega
Apollo Crews won the United States Championship two weeks earlier and I believe this is another scene where WWE hot shot their championships. I can see Andrade regaining his Championship and bring power back to him and Zelina Vega
Winners and new WWE United States Champion: Andrade
Sheamus vs Jeff Hardy
This feud has been building since Jeff Hardy return was being hyped with video packages. The feud took a bigger turn a couple of weeks ago with Hardy being arrested for crashing his car. Hardy pleaded innocence was questioned for being under the influence, playing on Hardy real life demons. Then on the go home show of Smackdown, Hardy would through urine in the face of Sheamus. With this in mind I can only see one winner and that is Hardy gaining revenge on the happenings of the last few weeks but Sheamus will vain his heat back either at the end of the match or on Smackdown to set a rematch up at Extreme Rules.
