This weekend sees WWE present Backlash live from the performance centre. With Backlash having a rich history we decided to take a look back at the best Backlash moments in history.
Goldberg picks up his first win
Back in 2003, the night after Wrestlemania, Goldberg made his debut and told The Rock he was next by delivering a vicious spear. They would meet in the main event of Backlash and Goldberg would pick up his first WWE win.
Double Rock Bottom
In the main event Backlash 2000, Triple H and The Rock would battle for the WWF Championship with Shane McMahon as the referee. In a memorable moment, The Rock was about to deliver a Rock Bottom to Triple H through the announcers table when McMahon tried to interfere. But The Rock would deliver the Rock Bottom to McMahon the same time.
Jinder Mahal wins the big one
Jinder Mahal was someone lost at the bottom of the roster in WWE but somehow managed to win a number one contenders match to earn a shot at the WWE Championship against Randy Orton. Rumoured to be part of a push to engage with Indian fan base, Mahal would defeat Orton and win the championship.
Randy Orton survives Cactus Jack
Battling for months in a heated feud, the two would settle it in a street fight. Orton would survive barbed wire, 2 x 4 and thumb tacks to retain his WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Spear of the stage
After their match at Wrestlemania where The Undertaker would defeat Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship. The rematch would take place in last man standing rules where both men couldn’t answer the count of 10. Batista would spear Undertaker off the stage at the end of their battle.
Hogan reigns supreme
Hulk Hogan made his return along with the NWO earlier in the year but split shortly afterwords. His crowd reactions were off the chart for the WWF icon and he would win the Undisputed Championship from Triple H to capitalise on his nostalgia run.
Shane McMahon daredevil dive
Shane McMahon and The Big Show met in a Last Man Standing Match and the owner of WCW jumped off part of the stage set landing on The Big Show. Helped up by Test, McMahon would defeat The Big Show.
McMahon conquers ECW
After by humiliated at Wrestlemania, Vince McMahon set on gaining revenge by making Bobby Lashley life a living hell. McMahon would book himself, Shane McMahon and Umaga against Lashley for the ECW Championship in a handicap match. Mr. McMahon would pin Lashley to win the title.
Austin 3:16 returns
At Backlash 2000 Triple H defended his WWF Championship against the Rock, The Game would have the McMahons have in his corner and The Rock would have Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin would return from injury for one night and take down The McMahon-Helmsley regime and help The Rock win the WWF Championship.
Big Show turns off Cena light
Edge and John Cena squared off in the main event for the World Heavyweight Championship in a last man standing match. The Big Show would appear and chockslam John Cena through a nearby spotlight and afterwords Cena would need to be stretchered out of the arena.
